Ditto. I added the podcast immediately to Apple Podcasts before I even started listening to make sure I wouldn't lose it, then found about the subscription model and immediately stopped 5 minutes into the episode, subscribed and set it up again. This is a good problem to have.
A great problem to have, and thanks for calling it out. For all of you paid subscribers who similarly went straight to your podcast apps to search for the show and add it, you will want to reverse and redo it like Sean did. Please make sure you check your email for your subscription confirmation email. It includes instructions to add your "private" feed to your podcast app — you'll see one list of episodes that are a mix of the free ones and the ones behind the paywall. Let us know if you have issues. We can try to help you here in the comments, or you can email podcasting@substackinc.com.
I don't mean to criticise... just tripping over myself to sign up! (In all seriousness, setting it up properly was super easy and well explained, and it probably took about as much time than it took me to type out this comment.)
Oh no, I didn't take it as criticism, only that it was helpful! It really is super helpful that you bring this up here! I was a paying subscriber to another Substack with a paid-only podcast for, like, months before I saw a commenter reference the...premium podcast I was missing out on.
I just subscribed. My welcome email, titled "Your payment receipt from Serious Trouble #DF05ABAE-0001" doesn't contain any instructions about the private feed.
I tried unsubscribing and resubscribing without getting a chance to add private episodes. I use PocketCasts.
Putting this here because this is where I looked when I had the problem.
Hi Brian, a shortcut: go to www.serioustrouble.show/account > log in if you're not already > find where it says "Private podcast feed" and hit the 'click here' beneath it > follow instructions to add your private feed.
An important thing to do is to make sure you are unsubscribed from the public Serious Trouble feed — which you may have subscribed to if you just searched for us on PocketCasts. You'll know you're looking at the private feed when you see [EXCLUSIVE EPISODE] in the title of some of the episodes.
So that's the payment confirmation email -- you should have also received another one called "Welcome! Set up your private Serious Trouble podcast feed."
This is the first media thing I've willingly paid for in...maybe ever? No spotify, no tv shows, I still have rabbit ears on the TV. But I missed having y'all on the speakers on Tuesdays, it had become so routine and I looked forward to it and I'm glad the team is back together.
I've already texted Ken about this and he's left me on read (I presume, and I probably deserve it) but in the meantime: I recommend this episode Josh recorded with Matt Levine about Musk and Twitter. It is very good. https://www.joshbarro.com/p/matt-levine-on-elon-musk-and-compliance
You're back! And I survived! For anyone wondering, yes the paid subscription is compatible with Pocket Casts. Now that I know, I'll be switching to the annual subscription!
I’m an avid podcast listener of all kinds, and this is the only one I pay for (I do give Dan Carlin the proverbial “buck a show,” but that works out to like $2 a year). Glad to have this duo back.
Hi everyone, we missed you!
I'm a 40 year old man who just clapped and giggled like an infant.

This could accidentally lead to us profusely and nicely apologising to each other in a never ending spiral until the end of time...
Sorry about that.
No no, it's I who should apologize. I started the thread with my infantile clapping and whatnot. Maybe we're all Canadian, deep down.

Here is an image of the welcome email. Perhaps I'm too dense to see the instructions. https://user.fm/files/v2-71f843c00265a868f6796fa7da03d197/email.png

Peculiar. Perhaps it got delayed. (It's not that it was in my spam folder - I checked. That's where all of the emails went.)
In any case, all is now well. Thank you.
I’m confident that the comments section here will even rival the excellence of the comments at Reason.
Josh, I swear to God, if you create one more informative and entertaining Substack, I'll have no choice but to subscribe to that one, too
is that a threat
It's only threatening to my wallet!

Welcome back! I've been waiting (im)patiently!!
So good to have you all back!!
hell yeah
Insta-subscribe.
Your website is dogshit amateur-hour, but I love the podcast! <3
Welcome back!
I’d love to hear your take on the Elon Musk/Twitter fiasco (and then frankly I’d love to never hear about Musk again for the rest of eternity)

So glad you’re back, at least sort of. Now, explain again why it’s not RICO...
Thoughts and Prayers to Sara, although the lack of a swear jar may make your life easier.
If I ever get into serious trouble, I'll know which law firm to call!
